Teriyaki sauce combines two Japanese words: “teri,” meaning lustre, and “yaki,” meaning grill or broil. While technically a cooking style, in the United States, “teriyaki” primarily refers to the associated sauce—a magical elixir that transforms grilled meats and vegetables into something irresistible.
Ingredients:
1 cup water
¼ cup soy sauce
5 teaspoons packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey, or more to taste
½ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons cornstarch
¼ cup cold water
Method:
Gather all ingredients, mix and place in a pan. Cook on a low heat until thickened. Either use straight away or store in sterile airtight jars in the fridge.
Great for fish, meat or just adding zing to noodles.
