In 2014 I bought the domain that I used for a number of years for all my amateur radio material. This included training materials for all levels of the UK exams, Reviews of hardware and software. In fact it was just a massive version of what is currently available on https:\/\/mm0zif.radio<\/a> except the .radio domain didn’t exist then. The reason for wanting a .scot domain was simple. I live in Scotland, and although it is a part of the UK I feel more Scottish than English or British, so wanted that to stand out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For almost five years, MM0ZIF.scot was out of my hands. Originally registered the domain as my personal domain, Unfortunately I missed a renewal date, due to a bought of bad health, and before I could react, someone had swooped in and claimed it. Unfortunately, domain squatting is a common practice, and I found myself locked out of a name that had real significance to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I went as far as going to ICANN, but as far as they were concerned, someone else now had it and I didn’t. Even explaining that it is an amateur radio callsign and therefore meaningless to anyone else, they didn’t even investigate it. So when the .radio domain came up, I purchased that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But persistence pays off! After years of waiting, MM0ZIF.scot<\/a> is finally back under my control, and I\u2019m excited to announce that it now redirects to MM0ZIF.radio<\/a><\/strong>\u2014the hub for all things related to my callsign and radio activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This experience has been a lesson in the importance of domain management and how easily a small mistake can lead to a long wait (and sometimes an expensive process) to reclaim what was once yours. If you own a domain that matters to you, take my advice: enable auto-renewal and keep an eye on those expiry dates!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
