4. Hail

Hail is formed in thunderstorms when updrafts carry water droplets up into the freezing level of the atmosphere, where they freeze into small balls of ice. As the hailstones move upward and downward through the storm cloud, they may pass through additional layers of supercooled water droplets, which freeze onto the hailstones, increasing their size.

Graupel, also known as soft hail, forms when supercooled water droplets freeze onto falling snowflakes, creating small, soft pellets. Unlike hail, graupel is fragile and typically disintegrates when handled

6. Freezing Rain

Freezing rain occurs when snowflakes fall through a layer of warm air, melting them into raindrops. If these raindrops then pass through a layer of cold air that is too thin to freeze them before reaching the ground, they freeze onto surfaces, forming a layer of clear ice.
